Has anyone noticed that most of the nations from which we get our oil are markedly anti-American?
Citgo, formerly an American company, is wholly owned by the Venezuelan government. Hugo Chavez, the ruler of Venezuela, has publicly stated that he plans to work with other criminal states in bringing down the “American Empire.” The Middle East is a steaming cauldron of death and chaos. Russia does a booming business with Iran. The Saudis are at best fair-weather friends who would sell us out anytime it proved more profitable than selling us oil.
On our home turf, the Enviro-Nazis work tirelessly to cripple the efforts of American exploration companies with phony lawsuits based on junk science. Liberal politicians bow at the altar of the Almighty Lobbyist Dollar, and willingly support the efforts of the far-left to bring oil and gas exploration to a halt on U.S. soil.
All the while, our need for oil continues to grow. We are in a deadly situation, and it will get better only when we act to solve the problem instead of playing politics. There are a number of items to be accomplished…
First, we must recognize that our interests do not always match up with those of other nations. That doesn’t mean we shouldn’t act in our own best interest, but it does mean that we shouldn’t be surprised when we meet opposition. For example, a lot of people were outraged when it was discovered that Russia was providing military technology to Iran. And I don’t recall anyone asking our permission when Dubai Ports World purchased the rights to manage some of our ports. Sorry friends, but there is no law that says Russia must first consider the well-being of Americans when they conduct business on the international stage. Other nations will act in their own best interests, and that is as it should be.
The next thing to learn is that regardless of how it affects the rest of the world, we should indeed protect and expand our interests. No one will do it for us. If the rest of the world doesn’t like it, they can get over it. Those who stand idly by, worrying about how they’re regarded by others, soon find themselves at the bottom of the economic and political food chains. Look around… it’s happening to us right here and right now.
Next… Drill for more oil here at home. Drill in ANWR. Drill off the coast of Florida. Drill in my backyard (please?). Drill anywhere within our borders that’ll produce a good drip of black gold. Otherwise, we run the risk of seeing our country reduced to economic ruin when our enemies elect to cut off the supply. It isn’t a matter of “if” this happens. It’s simply a matter of “when.”
One of the few good ideas George W. Bush has had since becoming President is the acceleration of our pursuit of alternative fuels and more economic internal combustion engines. I’m 100% in favor of people being able to drive as big and expensive a vehicle as their budget allows. I am not however, in favor of those vehicles gulping down a gallon of gasoline every 12 or 14 miles. Having said that, I’ll also say this: You’ll never see the day when I drive a funky hybrid that looks like a pregnant roller skate and performs like a quadriplegic turtle. But show me one that actually performs. Show me one that goes zero to sixty like a car ought to. Show me one that matches my awesomely charismatic personality. In other words, show me one that is what an American car should be. Then I’ll drive it proudly. If the Europeans wish to drive a sardine can on wheels, more power to them.
We don’t need to break our addiction to oil. We do however need to break our addiction to foreign oil. How much stronger would our standing in the world be if OPEC nations were forced to compete for our business? How much stronger would our economy be if we could dictate the price we were willing to pay for a barrel of foreign oil? We can do this. But it requires that we extract more of our own oil, and that we find ways to use less of what we have.
That doesn’t automatically mean we should have to make unreasonable sacrifices. Damn the HOV lanes. This is America, and Americans like to drive their own cars. And, those cars must be totally cool. Is all this possible? Of course it is. American ingenuity has no equal in the world. We are a nation of people who are accustomed to getting what we want, and we’ve always found a way to make it happen. We do it by working harder and being smarter than the competition. I can’t think of any reason why that should change.
A lot of other nations would complain that we’re hurting the global market by the simple act of being “petrochemically independent.” Liberals here at home would probably whine and moan about how unfair it is that some Saudi prince had to sell a couple of castles to scrape by. Personally, I’d laugh all the way to the bank.
America didn’t become the most fabulous nation on Planet Earth by making nice with outlaw regimes like Iran and Venezuela, or local traitors like Cindy Sheehan and Harry Belafonte. America became the shining beacon of freedom and prosperity we enjoy today by being fair when she can, and ruthless when she must. I have not one whit of concern about the world’s opinion of the USA. My concern is centered solely around my country. So too, should yours.

The Liberal Guide to Total Personal Safety
By Alan Burkhart
After the recent media furor over Dick Cheney’s hunting accident, I have given much thought on just how we might avoid such needless incidents of injury and death in the future. It would appear that in this case, we should follow the liberals’ logic (now there’s and oxymoron) to solve the problem.
First let’s address the immediate problem: People die every year from hunting and other firearm-related accidents. It is therefore obvious that we must ban all guns from our society. Just think! No one will ever be hurt by a gun again!
Next – thousands of people die each year in automobile accidents. More, in fact, than do from firearm accidents. It is thus equally obvious that all motor vehicles must go. Park your Toyota in the back yard and use it as a planter.
I had first thought that bicycles might be an appropriate replacement for cars, but after further review of the numbers I’ve discovered that people are often hurt and sometimes even killed in bicycling accidents. Same goes for horses. Back in the 1800’s many people were run down by spooked horses and runaway buggies. Any of you who live near an Amish village please tell these folks the location of the nearest glue or dog food factory. The horses and bicycles must go. Safety first!
So, I guess we’ll be walking everywhere. By the way, we must also ban running. Every year a number of people are hurt in jogging and running accidents. And we should caution police that they shouldn’t run after those who break the anti-running laws. The accident danger of high-speed pursuit is well-known. They can radio ahead and have other officers standing by to walk out and stop the runner.
You know, I’m feeling safer already…
But wait! There is always the danger of stepping on a mole hill or other unseen hazard and breaking an ankle. If we are to follow the superior logic of the liberal left, we must therefore ban walking as well. Sorry folks, but you’ll have to stay home. It’s just too dangerous out there.
Of course, people get killed every day in accidents at home, too. Kitchen fires, gas leaks, exploding hot water heaters, falls down the steps…… why, the list is endless! Okay, so to be totally safe not only must you stay at home but you must also tear down your house. And do not stand under a tree when it rains, either. Remember the always - imminent danger of being struck by lightning. Doggone it, is there no way to be totally safe in this world?
WAIT A MINUTE!!! I am having a revelation!
Yes! I can see it clearly now. There is a common thread to all accidents. It’s people! None of the above accidents could have happened without the presence and involvement of Homo sapiens. No gun ever cocked itself and fired. Someone had to pull the trigger. No car ever started up and ran over someone of its own accord. Someone had to drive it.
Yep. That settles it. A ban on people should be enacted immediately. It’s the only way.
Yes, I know I’m being absurd. But let’s face it friends – life isn’t safe. You can take every precaution in the world and still break your neck in the shower. The liberal busy bodies in the media could do us all a service by giving Mr. Cheney and Mr. Whittington a bit of privacy and concentrating on real news. If this had happened to two ordinary citizens instead of a vice president and a friend, we’d never hear a peep from the media about it. It is unfortunate that the media sees fit to lift itself up via sensationalism instead of quality reporting.
Contrary to the blather of George Soros and MoveOn.org, Dick Cheney is just as human, and just as fallible, as the rest of us. Give the guy a break, okay?

Wing Nuts, Perverts and Fred The Baptist
By Alan Burkhart
Americans have a habit of not taking matters as seriously as we should unless we’re actually confronted up close and personally. Even terrorism took a back seat for many Americans until Nine-Eleven.
While I have well-formed beliefs in regards to homosexuality, it isn’t something that preoccupies my time. I write about it only rarely and even then it’s usually due to related events in the news. Last night however, I was confronted by a prime example of the effect sexual perversion has on our culture and I can’t rest until I vent the anger and revulsion that has dogged me all through the day. A recent article from the Sacramento Bee has only served to feed the fire.
I was spending the night in a truck stop in South Carolina. It was getting near eleven pm, and I was settled beneath the blankets with sleep rapidly approaching. All was well in my world.
Then came the soft knock at my driver’s side door. I had an idea what it would be. Hookers work truck stops all over the country. My normal response is to just ignore them. In this case the knocking continued until I finally gave up and opened the curtain. Standing there looking up expectantly at me was a boy of about 11 years.
My fatherly instincts kicked in and I rolled down the window and inquired as to what the young man had on his mind…
“Mister, would ya like a blow job for five bucks?”
I guess the look on my face must have answered his question. The kid turned and trotted away, leaving me both shaken and saddened. The police were not optimistic about finding him although they seemed sincere when they assured me they’d try.
How does an eleven year-old boy end up working as a male prostitute? What sort of life is he living? Are his parents totally unaware, or are they pimping this poor kid for drug money? What are his prospects for the future? How have we as a nation reached a point that such an outrage is possible?
As to the last question, the most obvious part of the answer traces straight back to the anything-goes mentality of liberal America. We live in a nation where homosexuals can adopt children. Responsible parents can end up in jail for delivering a proper spanking while sexual predators roam the streets in search of prey. School libraries include books that justify homosexuality and promote it as a normal and healthy lifestyle. Those who speak out against it are labeled homophobes and bigots. Hollywood contributes mightily to the problem with cinematic trash like “Brokeback Mountain.”
The problem doesn’t just come from the Left, however. The Right must also shoulder some of the blame.
Consider a recent article from the Sacramento Bee that describes the actions of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, KS. According to the article, this small church has about 75 members, most of whom are part of the pastor’s “extended family.” Starting in the 90’s, these people were picketing the funerals of fallen soldiers, claiming that God was punishing them with death for defending a nation that harbors homosexuals.
Imagine being the widow of a fallen soldier, and having these freaks carrying signs at the funeral with slogans like “God hates fags.” Were I at one of these funerals, there’d be a need for another funeral by the time I was done. I honestly do not believe I could keep my temper. Free speech is one thing, but this? Can we not even respect those who wish to mourn the passing of their beloved?
While the mental midgets from Westboro Baptist Church certainly do not represent the mainstream of the Religious Right, they do shed light upon a growing problem. It’s a grand thing that conservatives have begun standing up for what we believe. But there is no room for extremism within the conservative ideology. True Conservatism is the antithesis of extremism. Misguided souls like these who misuse their constitutional right to gather in protest do nothing but harm. One can only imagine what a sermon in this church would be like. The venomous hatred on the part of the congregation is surely an extension of the hatred on the part of their pastor, Fred Phelps. I daresay it would rival any fundamentalist mosque in terms of pure vitriol.
Imagine a planning session by this congregation. Imagine these people getting together to make signs that state “God Hates Fags” while other churches around the nation are planning charitable events, disaster shelters and pro-life rallies. The church even staged a protest at a memorial for the 12 miners killed in the recent Sago mine incident in West Virginia. Their rationale? They believe that God killed the miners as punishment for America’s tolerance of homosexuals.
Groups like Westboro and their wonderful Reverend Fred rob the Right of our most precious tool: Credibility. They do as much harm to our cause as do those who bomb abortion clinics. We reject the tactics of radical Islam because they seek to force their perverse version of that religion upon the free world. We should also reject and act against groups like Westboro when they attempt to inflict themselves upon innocent souls who are mourning their deceased. People cannot be pushed to God. They must be willingly lead.
If we allow extremist groups like Westboro Baptist Church to become the face of Moral Conservatism, we will lose our fight for the soul of the nation. And if that happens, little boys selling themselves in truck stops will not be the worst of our problems.
Common sense always lies in the middle ground between the extremes. It matters not whether you’re a right-wing nut or a left-wing nut. You’re still a wing-nut.

Ninth Circuit Says: Go Ahead and Kill the Children
By Alan Burkhart
AUTHOR'S NOTE: This article contains a disturbing image of an aborted child farther down the page. If you feel this will be upsetting to you, then you should not read the article here. I will gladly send you a text-only version via e-mail. My address is: alan@alanburkhart.com.
Breaking News: Representatives from the ACLU have announced that the Ninth Circuit Court of appeals has upheld Pandora Leftwitch’s right to kill her 2 month-old baby girl. In a unanimous decision, the court stated that she could have legally obtained a partial birth abortion a few months earlier anyway, and as such there seemed to be “…little difference between then and now.”
If the phony news bite above seems farfetched, consider that two separate courts have ruled that President Bush’s partial birth abortion ban is unconstitutional. The Eighth and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeals have both ruled against the most defenseless in our society.
If children can be slaughtered like livestock all the way into the third trimester, how far are we from the point in which a child can be euthanized shortly after birth? Child euthanasia is already legal in The Netherlands under extreme circumstances. In a partial birth abortion, the child is outside of the womb with the exception of its head. The child lies mere inches from live birth, but instead suffers a death worthy of a Medieval torture chamber.
For those of you who do not fully understand what happens during this grisly procedure, it is thus…
An abortionist (I refuse to call them “doctors”) delivers the child feet-first, all except the head, which is still inside the mother. The child is alive and conscious, and quite capable of feeling pain. The abortionist then punctures the base of the child’s skull with a sharp instrument (usually a pair of surgical scissors) and shoves a vacuum tube into the wound. Lastly, the abortionist sucks the child’s brain out through the tube while it spasms in excruciating pain as it dies. The child’s remains are disposed of as medical waste. No grave. No marker. No mourning by a loving family. A human child. Medical waste.
If I walk outside and kill someone by stabbing him in the head with a pair of scissors, I’d be rightly regarded as a psychopathic killer. If however, I was a woman with an unwanted pregnancy, I could conspire with an abortionist to murder a defenseless child. And with the ban repealed, I could do so with impunity.
It becomes even more nightmarish when one considers the number of partial birth abortions that take place. The following text is from the National Right to Life website:
In regards to all abortions, forty-eight percent of women who have an abortion have already had at least one previous abortion. This is especially disturbing because it reveals the fact that many people regard the killing of an unborn child to be no different than using a condom or other contraceptive. This callous disregard for the sanctity of life is a good yardstick to measure the speed at which our culture is sliding into the sewer. On average, unmarried women have 572 abortions for every 1000 live childbirths.
The killing of children is also a lucrative business. Planned Parenthood works diligently to pass itself off as a women’s health organization. But abortion generates millions of dollars per year in revenue, and no one performs more abortions than Planned Parenthood. In fiscal year 2004, it is estimated (see links below) that Planned Parenthood made one hundred and four million dollars on 244,628 abortions.
Perhaps Norma McCorvey summed it up best in January of 2005: "America is slowly dying of a holocaust of abortion that began with Roe vs. Wade."
In case you don’t know, in 1973 Norma McCorvey was known as “Jane Roe” in the Roe vs. Wade court case that legalized the slaughter of the unborn. It’s also worth noting that in spite of the fact that her case paved the way for legalized abortion, she elected not to abort her baby. She is now a leading opponent of abortion. Amazing, the changes that occur when you allow God into your life.
With the President’s ban on partial birth abortion presently derailed, the door is once again open for innocent children to die in non-medical, unnecessary partial birth abortions. Certainly a woman whose life is threatened by a pregnancy should be able to have the option of a clinical abortion to save her own life. But to allow the death of our most vulnerable for the sake of convenience reduces the value of human life immeasurably. Hopefully the fight over the ban will eventually make its way to the Supreme Court. With the Alito confirmation, there is real hope that partial birth abortion can become a nightmare of the past, rather than a threat to our future.

Partial-birth abortions are performed thousands of times annually on healthy babies of healthy mothers. In 1997, Ron Fitzsimmons, executive director of the National Coalition of Abortion Providers (1997), estimated that the method was used 3,000 to 5,000 times annually. “In the vast majority of cases, the procedure is performed on a healthy mother with a healthy fetus that is 20 weeks or more along, Fitzsimmons said.”
(The New York Times, Feb. 26, 1997, p. A11.)
